Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is an extra-curricular activity in which students role-play as international delegates to the United Nations and simulate UN committees. This activity takes place at MUN conferences, which are usually organized by a high school or university MUN student organizations. Thousands of middle school, high school, and university students across Canada and around the world participate in Model United Nations, which involves substantial researching, public speaking, debating, and writing skills, as well as critical thinking, teamwork and leadership abilities. At the end of most conferences, outstanding delegates in each committee are recognized and given an award certificate; the Best Delegate in each committee, Best Position Paper, and Most Diplomatic.


The VIUMUN 2019 is hosted by Vancouver Island University's MUN Club. VIU MUN is an interdisciplinary club which encourages students to enter into the world of international politics and cooperation. We foster strong leadership, strong speakers, and cooperations skills in our members. VIU MUN Club has hosted MUN Conferences in 1998, 2006, and 2011 and has attended conferences including UBC MUN and NMUN, held at the United Nations headquarters in New York
